Tameside Councillors

Since the last boundary changes in 2023, the council has comprised 57 councillors representing 19 wards, with each ward electing three councillors.   Elections are held three years out of every four, with a third of the council (one councillor for each ward) elected each time for a four-year term of office. Sail with Santa

Join Santa onboard the Community Spirit 2 canal boat for a festive 35 minute round trip along the canals of Tameside with songs, stories, and presents with Santa! Each ticket includes a snack for the children and a mince pie or cake and hot drink for the grown-ups.

Spaces are limited to 10 people per trip, and due to numbers being strictly limited by the boat's insurance, all passengers (including babes in arms) must purchase a ticket to be allowed on board. All tickets cost £8.50, regardless of age. Children must be accompanied by an adult on the Sail With Santa trips. The boat is fully accessible for both self-propelling and electric wheelchair users.

Active Tameside director feared he wouldn’t recover from COVID-19

Director of Health & Social outcomes at Active Tameside, Shaun Higgins, has told how he was hospitalised with Coronavirus to help highlight the severity of the virus, even in those particularly fit and active, and to urge people to take steps to stop the spread. The 51-year-old, from Newton, Hyde was unfortunate enough to contract COVID-19 and fall seriously ill in March. Shaun has Type 1 diabetes and told of how he suffered with extreme nausea and vomiting over 24 hours, before being admitted to hospital where it was confirmed that he had COVID-19. The virus had unbalanced his diabetes and made him very ill. He then proceeded to develop more commonly recognised COVID-19 symptoms such as a lack of taste and smell, which he continues to experience even now almost six months later. Shaun remained in Tameside Hospital for eight days before returning home where he was told he would be safer.
